about

An entirely instrumental short album recorded at home in Manchester during the lockdown of 2020 / 21. Musically inspired by a blend of film noir soundtracks, deep ambient and classic electronica. Also influenced by early morning walks, old films, obsolete formats and experimenting with scales and textures. Fans of Boards Of Canada, Tortoise, AFX, Brian Eno and Goblin might perhaps find something to enjoy here. The first “side” is much more up-tempo than the second which eases you gradually into more beatless atmospheric territory.

“Electric Dimension Colonel” – the title is just a daft random cut-up phrase, the album cover is just the tree down the road at dawn on a solitary early morning stroll. The record itself has quite a different ambience to the punky, vocal sound of the last few releases like 2019’s “Pub Bin”, returning in part to the more abstract but hopefully melodic experimental terrain of 2016’s “Archipelago Quest” and some much earlier releases under the Shirokuma name.

This album is free to download, (though tips always appreciated !) and is the first of an occasional new series of instrumental experiments. Really hope you enjoy it, cheers !

There is an additional “secret” companion release for German Shepherd Records subscribers called “Bloopers Reel” this features a mix of eight additional comedy vocal demo songs and instrumental tracks recorded during the sessions for this record.

Recorded, mixed and mastered in FL Studio 20 using the entertaining new Akai Fire controller and mostly performed playing the FLEX vst and Izotope Iris 2 synth on the electronic stuff and Spitfire LABS instruments for the more organic stuff. Plus some live bass and outdoor field recordings and a comedy Bush cassette recorder and ancient JVC C60 ferric tapes also feature in the mix…
